Submission Guidelines

Conditions

- Must be no more than 30 minutes in length
- There are no limitations considering the applicant’s age or qualifications
- All genres and languages are accepted
- Must have been made after January 1st, 2008
- Copyrights and any other rights of the movie to be submitted must be possessed or registered by the actual applicant
- Must have never been submitted to a previous CON-CAN Movie Festival
- Movies in a language other than English or Japanese must have either English or Japanese subtitles

Awards

Audience Awards

The 80 movies selected to compete will be grouped into a total of 8 programs, where one movie from each program will be awarded. They will be uploaded on the website, available for viewing and rating by the global audience. Further details considering the program will be announced after the completion of the initial selection process.

CORTO TOKYO 2010 Competition

5 members of the CON-CAN International Jury will choose 1 Grand Prix Award, 1 Special Jury Award, and Best Picture Awards for each category.

Special Program

We plan on organizing several special off-competition programs starting from this year. Please look forward in the future programs that will fully introduce the true potential of short films! Further details will be posted on the website (Special Programs will only be showcased in offline screening events).

Jury Process

80 movies will be selected to participate in the following competitions:

Audience Awards

The 80 movies will be posted on the website, for free viewing and rating by the global audience, according to the screening schedule. A movie with the highest rating from each program will be presented with the Audience Award.

CORTO TOKYO 2010 Competition

The Preliminary Jury will nominate 24 movies (6 movies for each category), during the secondary selection process, that will participate in the final competition.
Then the International Jury will choose 1 Grand Prix Award and 1 Special Jury Award. Furthermore, 4 Best Picture Awards for each category (Fiction/Documentary/Animation/Experimental) will be chosen as well.

Announcement of Final Competition Results (Planned): Early December 2010

・Further details considering the Award Ceremony/Screenings will be announced time to time as necessary confirmations are made.

* Results for the competition will be officially announced on the website accordingly so any personal inquires about the results will not be answered.
* Minor changes may occur in the schedule but these changes will have no affect on the jury process or the final results so please do not be alarmed.

Submission Procedure & Documents

The following materials must be submitted

* We recommend applicants of CORTO TOKYO 2010 to register online when making a submission but you may also complete the registration process by downloading the Entry Form and then sending it to our headquarters via postal mail.

1. Entry FormRegister online or download the Entry Form (Word)(PDF). Please make sure to fill out all the information in the form. Also, mailed entry forms must be TYPED. The initial evaluations will be based on the information provided in these forms as well as the movie itself.
2. Letter of ConsentDownload from here and please read all provisions carefully. Make sure to fill in the date, the name of the applicant, and the applicant’s signature.
3. Revenue Share ProgramFor those who are interested in joining the Revenue Share Program, please select the participation button and continue. We will contact you with further information once your registration is confirmed. For those who wish to register offline, please send an e-mail titled “Participation in the Revenue Share Program” to rsp@mediasoken.jp. We will contact you with further information once your registration is confirmed.
4. Two copies of the Movie (one with either English or Japanese subtitles and one without any subtitles)*miniDV, DV-CAM, DVD, or QuickTime Data
*NTSC, PAL, and SECAM, as well as all DVD region codes are acceptable
*Be sure to send a copy, not the original
*Mini DVs must be in SP mode (LP mode is NOT acceptable)
*For movies other than in English or Japanese submitted in DVD format, include English or Japanese subtitles as a menu option or send another copy with subtitles burned in.
*For submissions in DVD format, we may ask you to send the original tape if your movie is nominated due to picture quality issues.
*Please do NOT place any paper labels on the DVD
5. Screenplay or Dialogue ListPlease send a screenplay (if available). For movies in languages other than English or Japanese, include an English or Japanese translation (a rough translation is acceptable)
6. Photographs(digital data)・ 2 or more still shots of the movie (greater than 300dpi)
・ 1 or more photo of the director (greater than 300dpi)

Registration Process

A. Online Registration Users

Complete the registration process online, then download the Letter of Consent and other necessary forms. Fill in the forms completely and finally send them to our office with the actual movie via postal mail.

Send the following 4 items by postal mail, courier service, or by personal delivery to our office.

* Be sure to indicate your MOVIE ID, which will be sent to you after registration via e-mail, on all submitting materials.

2. 2 copies of the movie (one with either English or Japanese subtitles and one without any subtitles)
3. Screenplay or Dialogue List (IF AVAILABLE) (If movie is not in English or Japanese, please include either an English or Japanese translation)
4. Digital photographs (jpg or tiff format)

B. Offline Registration Users

Download the Entry Form, Letter of Consent, and any other necessary forms. Fill in the forms completely and then send them to our headquarters with the actual movie via postal mail.
Send the following 5 items by postal mail, courier service, or by personal delivery to our headquarters.
